Frequency scoring points and the findings of rare caddisfly species in Finland (Trichoptera)

Salokannel, J., Mattila, K., Saarela, E., Bagge, P., Salmela, J. & Järventausta, K. 2004: Suomen vesiperhosten frekvenssipisteet ja harvinaisten lajien havainnot (Trichoptera). [Frequency scoring points and the findings of rare caddisfly species in Finland (Trichoptera)]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 113-121.

Frequency scoring points are given to Finnish caddisfly species according to number of their known localities. The score has been approximated for common species. The findings of the rarest species (max. 6 localities) have been gathered and many of the determinations have been checked. Apatania stylata, Navás 1916 is removed from Finnish list because of misidentification.

Enumeratio nova Coleopterorum: errata

Silfverberg, H. 2004. Enumeratio nova Coleopterorum: errata. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 122.

Country records accidentally omitted from the new check list are added.

New records of the threatened fly Pachyneura fasciata Zetterstedt, 1838 in eastern Fennoscandia

Salmela, J. & Ilmonen, J. 2004: New records of the threatened fly Pachyneura fasciata Zetterstedt, 1838 in eastern Fennoscandia. [Uusia havaintoja uhanalaisesta aarnisääskestä Pachyneura fasciata Zetterstedt, 1838 itäisestä Fennoskandiasta (Diptera, Nematocera)]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 123-126.

We report six new records of Pachyneura fasciata Zetterstedt, 1838 (Diptera, Nematocera) in Finland and two in Russian Karelia based on Malaise trap catches and sweep-netting. All records were made in the riparian zone around small water bodies. Pachyneura fasciata occurred usually in low numbers but was abundant in one site.

Imports of the longhorn beetle Plagionotus detritus (L.), to Finland (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)

Biström, O. 2004: Import av bredbandad ekbarkbock, Plagionotus detritus (L.), till Finland (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae). [Imports of the longhorn beetle Plagionotus detritus (L.), to Finland (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 127-128.

The longhorn beetle Plagionotus detritus (Linnaeus) is reported from Finland (Esbo and Helsingfors). Two specimens were collected indoors in February and March 2004. The records are considered as imports.

Harpalus signaticornis (Duftschmid), a new carabid species from Estonia (Coleoptera, Carabidae)

Biström, O. 2004: Harpalus signaticornis (Duftschmid), en ny jordlöparart för Estland (Coleoptera, Carabidae). [Harpalus signaticornis (Duftschmid), a new carabid species from Estonia (Coleoptera, Carabidae)]. — Sahlbergia 9(2):129-130.

The carabid species Harpalus (Semiophonus) signaticornis (Duftschmid, 1812) (Coleoptera, Carabidae) is reported for the first time from Estonia. One specimen was collected in June 2003 under wrack on a dune beach on the island of Hiiumaa.

Dytiscus dimidiatus Bergsträsser, 1778 (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae) in Finland

Kullberg, J. 2004: Dytiscus dimidiatus Bergsträsser, 1778 (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae) Suomessa. [Dytiscus dimidiatus Bergsträsser, 1778 (Coleoptera, Dytiscidae) in Finland]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 131-132.

Dytiscus dimidiatus was found as new to Finland in 1916 and only few record are known. The article lists all the Finnish records and the status of the species is discussed. The species seem to have a population in SW archipelago in Ab: Dragsfjärd Örö (664:23), where altogether three specimens have been recorded during years 1998 and 2000. The locality is in a sandy island belonging to 2nd Salpausselkä esker chain in outer archipelago. Regular light trapping has been carried out in Örö since 1990 and Dytiscus species have been frequent visitors since beginning of the study. Summers during 1990’s have been very sunny and autumns long and warm, which may be the reason for the species to become more abundant and therefore more easily detected.

Rainieria latifrons (Loew, 1870) found in Estonia (Diptera: Micropezidae)

Kurina, O. 2004: Rainieria latifrons (Loew, 1870) found in Estonia (Diptera: Micropezidae). — Sahlbergia 9(2): 133-134.

The micropezid fly Rainieria latifrons (Loew, 1870) is reported from Estonia for the first time. The distributional data are provided based on the relevant literature. Pictures of the female specimen and its collecting locality are presented.

Changes in the Finnish fauna of fungus gnats (Diptera: Mycetophilidae s. l.) since Hackman’s checklist

Polevoi, A. V. & Jakovlev, J. B. 2004: Changes in the Finnish fauna of fungus gnats (Diptera: Mycetophilidae s. l.) since Hackman’s checklist. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 135-140.

All newly recorded species as well as those not included into Hackman’s check list are listed with the indication record source.

Limoniid fly Adelphomyia punctum is here reported for the first time from Finland. The species was caught from Kivijärvi (Ta: Urjala) Nature Reserve in 2003. The finding locality, distribution and ecology of A. punctum are presented.

Leaf mines on Himalayan Balsam, Impatiens glandulifera, in Finland

Silfverberg, H. 2004. Bladminor på jättebalsamin (Impatiens glandulifera) i Finland. [Leaf mines on Himalayan Balsam, Impatiens glandulifera, in Finland]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 144.

Impatiens glandulifera has during the last decade become locally quite common in southern Finland. In summer 2004 it was observed in Helsinki to be infected by an agromyzid fly, which based on the shape of the mines was identified as Phytoliriomyza melampyga (Loew). That species has formerly been reported from Finland as living on Impatiens noli-tangere.

Corrections to the Checklist of Finnish Lepidoptera

Kullberg, J., Kullberg, A. & Mutanen, M. 2004: Korjauksia Suomen perhosten luetteloon [Corrections to the Checklist of Finnish Lepidoptera]. — Sahlbergia 9(2): 145-146.

When compiling the Checklist of Finnish Lepidoptera (Kullberg et al. 2002) some errors were unintentionally created especially during manual copying of provincial data for families Micropterygidae – Pyralidae from the distributional maps of Kerppola et al. (1995). In this article we correct the erroneus distributional data as well as some other errors in the list. The article does not contain new species for Finland or other new additional data for the checklist.
