Helsinki, Finland, ISSN 2342-7582

The Feather-wing beetle species Ptenidium intermedium Wankowicz, 1896 is reported from Finland for the first time. In addition, new Finnish records of the silken fungus beetle species Atomaria atra (Herbst, 1793) are presented. Both species were recorded in a study comparing arthropod communities between shrub stands dominated by native vs. non-native shrubs from the plant family Rosaceae. One female of P. intermedium was caught in a pitfall trap in 22.-24.5.2012 in Ab: Turku, Urusvuori, and several specimens of A. atra were caught by both window and pit trapping from ten separate, previously unknown locations in south-western Finland in 2011 and 2012. Main diagnostic characters of P. intermedium are described and descriptions of the collection sites of both P. intermedium and A. atra are given.

Rutanen, I.: Orthoperus Stephens-suvun kovakuoriaisten esiintymisestä Suomessa (Coleoptera: Corylophidae). [On the occurence of the species of Orthoperus Stephens in Finland (Coleoptera, Corylophidae)]. – Sahlbergia 21(2): 40–48 .Helsinki, Finland, ISSN 2342-7582

Suomesta tunnettujen Orthoperus-suvun lajien eri museoitten ja useiden yksityiskokoelmien aineistojen määritykset tarkistettiin ja niiden levinneisyystiedot on koottu yhteen. Suvun lajien nimistössä tapahtuneista muutoksista johtuen lukuisia muutoksia määrityksiin jouduttiin tekemään. Kaikkiaan 2137 yksilöä määritettiin tai niitten määritys tarkistettiin. Maastamme tunnetaan viisi luonnossa esiintyvää lajia: Orthoperus brunnipes (Gyllenhal, 1808), Orthoperus punctatus Wankowicz, 1865, Orthoperus rogeri Kraatz, 1874 (= punctulatus Reitter, 1874), Orthoperus atomus (Gyllenhal, 1808) ja Orthoperus corticalis (Redtenbacher, 1845) (= improvisus Bruce, 1946). Yhden havainnon perusteella maastamme ilmoitettu laji Orthoperus nigrescens Stephens, 1829 (= mundus Matthws, 1885, coriaceus Mulsant & Rey, 1861) on todettu väärin määritetyksi ja se tulee poistaa lajistostamme. Kaikki lajimme ovat melko runsaasti edustettuina kokoelmissa, runsaimmiksi osoittautuivat O. brunnipes (734 yksilöä) ja O. atomus (646 yksilöä). O. punctatusta määritettiin 261 yksilöä, O. corticalista 308 yksilöä, O. rogeria 178 yksilöä. Eri kokoelmissa olleista Venäjän Karjalasta talletetuista näytteistä määritettiin 95 kaikkiin viiteen lajiin kuuluvaa yksilöä.

The determination of Finnish species of the coleopteran genus Orthoperus Stephens was reviewed and the distributional data is summarized. Caused by the revision of the taxonomy of this genus, many changes concerning the identification of the species were made. Totally 2137 individuals were determined or their identification was reviewed. In Finland five in nature occurring species are found: Orthoperus brunnipes (Gyllenhal, 1808), Orthoperus punctatus Wankowicz 1865, Orthoperus rogeri Kraatz, 1874 (= punctulatus Reitter, 1876), Orthoperus atomus (Gyllenhal, 1808) and Orthoperus corticalis (Redtenbacher, 1845) (= improvisus Bruce, 1946). One species, Orthoperus nigrescens Stephens, 1829 (= mundus Matthews, 1885, coriaceus Mulsant & Rey, 1861), which is reported from Finland based on one observation, should be deleted from the list of Finnish species because of misidentification. All the five species are quite abundantly represented in the collections, most numerous were O. brunnipes (734 individuals) and O. atomus (646 individuals). O. punctatus was represented with 261, O. corticalis with 308 and O. rogeri with 178 individuals. In different collections 95 individuals collected from Russian Karelia belonging to all the five species were determined.
