Of these, 17 are also new for Baltic region: Stigmella benanderella (Wolff), Parornix traugotti Svensson, Phyllonorycter trifoliella Grsm., Zelleria hepariella Stainton, Stephensia brunnichiella (L.), Elachista atricomella Stainton, Elachista gregori Traugott-Olsen, Elachista unilasciella (Haworth), Biselachista trapeziella (Stainton), Teleiodes saltuum (Zeller), Gnorimoschema valesiella (Staudinger), Scrobipalpa clintoni Pvolny, Dichelia histronana (Frölich), Phalonidia luridana (Gregson), Lobesia absisana (Doubleday), Bactra sp. (undescribed), Noctua janthina (Den. Et Schiff.). On 1 January, 1995 2367 species of Lepidoptera are know from Latvia .
Results of the mapping in 1995 of the distribution of 21 insect species in Finland
Hyönteiskartoitus/Insektkartering 81 1996: Vuoden 1995 tulokset 21 suomalaisen hyönteislajin levinneisyyskartoituksesta / Resultat av kartering av 21 insektarters utbredning I Finland år 1995 [Results of the mapping in 1995 of the distribution of 21 insect species in Finland]. – Sahlbergia 3: 9-20.
The results of the project ”Hyönteiskartoitus/Insektkartering 81” for the year 1995 are presented. Observations were made on the occurrence and absence of 21 (+ 4 extra) species of insects in Finland and marked on 10 x 10 km square grid maps. 223 persons (mainly amateurs) participated and returned 6140 observations from 1098 of the total of 3852 squares. Maps of the distribution of all target species are presented. The number of observations per person 27, was far the highest since the start of the project. The observations for nearly all the butterflies exceeded the mean values for the species, thus reflecting very good weather conditions during most of the season. Yponomeuta evonymellus continued to decline after its peak in 1993. There were no observations of Pachyta lamed in 1995.
Psocoptera fauna of oak forests in SW Finland
Kanervo, Jussi & Rinne, Veikko 1996: Luonais-Suomen tammilehtojen jäytiäisistä (Psocoptera) [Psocoptera fauna of oak forests in SW Finland]. – Sahlbergia 3: 21-23.
Psocopteran fauna of seven oak forests in SW Finland was studied in summer 1994. In all 2366 specimens of 27 species were caught with 33 branch traps (new) and 34 window traps attached to old oak trees, within 4 ½ months period. Several poorly known species were recorded, three species of them, Loensia varigeata , Peripsocus parvulus and Trichadentotecnum incognitum , are new to the province V. Pseudopsocus fusciceps hides under the lichens and it is regarded as a very difficult species to be found, but with the traps up to 231 specimens were caught.
The family Ibaliidae (Hymenoptera, Cynipoidea) in Finland with Ibalia jakowlewi Jacobson new to Fennoscandia
Martikainen, Petri & Viitasaari, Matti 1996: The family Ibaliidae (Hymenoptera, Cynipoidea) in Finland with Ibalia jakowlewi Jacobson new to Fennoscandia. – Sahlbergia 3: 24-27.
The Finnish records of all species of the family Ibaliidae are listed. Ibalia jakowlewi Jacobson is reported as new to Fennoscandia. The current find is described with a note on the host Tremex fuscicornis (Fabricius) (Hymenoptera, Siricidae).
Baetis tracheatus Keffermüller & Machel (Ephemeroptera, Baetidae), the first record in Finland; found in an eutrophic Stratiotes -river in Kittilä
Savolainen, Eino & Saura, Anssi 1996: Baetis tracheatus Keffermüller & Machel (Ephemeroptera, Baetidae), the first record in Finland; found in an eutrophic Stratiotes-river in Kittilä. – Sahlbergia 3: 28-29.
Baetis tracheatus is recorded for the first time in Finland in an eutrophic Stratiotes -river in Kittilä in the biological province of Kemi Lapland . The closest know occurrence is in Lithuania .
Abnormal male genitalia in Bryotropha galbanella (Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae)
Itämies, Juhani 1996: Abnormal male genitalia in Bryotropha galbanella (Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae). – Sahlbergia 3: 30.
Genitalia of Bryotropha glabanella (Zeller) from Finland with an abnormal gnathos is described and compared with those typical of the species.
Xestia sincera (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) larva eating buds of spruce in spring?
Itämies, Juhani, Marko Mutanen & Erkki Pulliainen 1996: Xestia sincera (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) larva eating buds of spruce in spring? – Sahlbergia 3: 31.
One larva of Xestia sincera (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) was observed eating the bud of a spruce in spring. It is not possible to tell weather this is the rule or not based on this one finding, but it might well be so.
Additions and corrections to Enumeratio Coleopterorum Fennoscandiae, Daniae et Baltiae
Silfverberg, Hans 1996: Additions and corrections to Enumeratio Coleopterorum Fennoscandiae, Daniae et Baltiae. – Sahlbergia 3: 33-62.
The latest checklist of North European Coleoptera was published in 1992, and is now updated with information on new distributional records from the different countries, ad with taxonomic and nomenclatural changes. All these corrections are based on published papers.
Results of the mapping in 1996 of the distribution of 21 insect species in Finland
Hyönteiskartoitus/Insektkartering 81 1996: Vuoden 1996 tulokset 21 suomalaisen hyönteislajin levinneisyyskartoituksesta / Resultat av kartering av 21 insektarters utbredning I Finland år 1996 [Results of the mapping in 1996 of the distribution of 21 insect species in Finland]. – Sahlbergia 3: 63-75.
The results of the project ”Hyönteiskartoitus/Insektkartering 81” for the year 1996 are presented. Observations were made on the occurrence and absence of 21 (+ 3 extra) species of insects in Finland and marked on 10 x 10 km square grid maps. 171 persons (largely amateurs) participated and returned 3113 observations from 763 of the total of 3852 squares. Maps of the distribution of all target species are presented. The number of observations per person, 17.5, was very low because of quite unsettled weather-conditions during the summer. For many species the flying period was delayed by 1-2 weeks in July due to rainy and cloudy weather. Yponomeuta evonymellus still declined since its peak in 1993.
Updated list of provincial distribution of stoneflies in Finland (Plecoptera)
Kuusela, Kalevi 1996: Updated list of provincial distribution of stoneflies in Finland (Plecoptera). – Sahlbergia 3: 76-80.
The list of Plecoptera species in the biological provinces of Finland was updated based on the new information available in Finnish reports and scientific articles, and on the unpublished materials in the insect collections of some museums (identified or checked by the author). New provincial recordings increased by 25 % compared to the previous list ( Lillehammer 1988). Out of 36 species recorded in Finland, 23-34 spp. have been found in eastern and northern provinces, mainly in areas above the altitude of 200 m a.s.l., and 1-20 spp. in costal and lake district provinces in west and south. Distribution and state of occurrence of some species and provincial species numbers, as also their changes are discussed.
